  2. A friend recently came to me for help with her son’s birthday party invitation. The party theme was awesome and I had fun putting this together! Who doesn’t like ROCKIN’ and ROARIN’ !?!?

  3. The Word & Music Project →

A few weeks ago, a few friends of mine started a creative collaboration titles The Word & Music Project. This group of musicians challenged themselves to create an original song each week inspired by a word or phrase. As part of this idea, they decided to invite artists/designers to create a “cover” for each week’s album of songs.

This past week I created a cover for them based on the theme word “DREAM”. I received the word on Monday, August 29 and had until Monday, September 5 to send in my finished piece. The inspiration came from my son, both his imagination and the dreams I hold for him. I took photos of him imagining himself as different characters and then picked one i felt moved me the most (and for which I could see the dream around him). I love looking at my design while listening to the songs and seeing the ways in which they relate to each other. They all connect to the image in their own way, and that’s what makes this project so fascinating to me. Please go to check out the songs and my artwork!

    …and never stop dreaming!

  4. These are some photos of a Christmas present I created for a friend. I got a 3 pack of journals from Barnes & Noble and added some hand-drawn ampersands (which she is really into). I was pretty happy with how they came out, simple and I think still very fitting. Hopefully she is getting good use out of them.

I’ve often drawn on covers of sketchbooks and notebooks and very much enjoy doing so. It’s another fun way of putting ideas where you see them, not necessarily just where space has been provided. If you have anything similar, please share (photo reply)!

  5. I recently made a simple contact card for myself to put out during some recent art shows I’ve been in! I thought they came out pretty well for being made on an EXTREMELY tight budget. They were a one-sided, BW design featuring some illustration and my artist signature.

  6. Working on a design idea… I’ve always found drawing typography to be very relaxing and somewhat therapeutic. Simple sketches like these help me jump start a creative process, even if they don’t end up being the finished product. I’m a firm believer that the creative path you take on a project is different depending on how you start. Simple acts such as physically drawing (instead of just jumping on your computer) and brainstorming with another human being (designer or not) bring about ideas that would otherwise be overlooked.
